ABOUT PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) |
|
PCD can be used to machine a wide range of non-ferrous metals (aluminium and aluminium alloys, magnesium alloys, copper, brass, bronze, zinc, pre-sintered and sintered tungsten carbide) and non-metalic materials such as wood based materials (chipboard, fibreboard, particle board, laminated flooring, hard woods, abrasive pines, cement board), ceramics, fibre glass, carbon fibre components, plastics, rubber and soft to medium hard rock formations) |
|
PCD is used in Three major areas are: |
1. |
Cutting non-ferrous metals and alloys (particularly Si Al in the automotive industry), |
2. |
Cutting wood particle board (particularly medium density fibreboard - MDF, and chipboard in the furniture industry), |
3. |
Non-cutting applications such as wear-parts |

About PCBN |
PCBN in an abbreviation for polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride which is a composite formed by sintering together carefully selected cBN particles at very high temperature and pressure in the presence of metal / ceramic catalyst binder material. The end product is a solid, homogeneous layer of PCBN that displays a unique combination of hardness, toughness and thermo-chemical stability, properties wich are increasingly important in a cutting tool material to meet the demands of machining hard ferrous materials. This composite cBN layer can be syntehsised either as free-standing solid material or with a tungsten carbide backing |
